Journal format

The journal has two publishing formats: NGP Theme Issues and separate issues for geographical dissertations.

NGP Theme Issues are published annually. The publication provides an opportunity for researchers and post-graduates to present their research to national and international audiences. We welcome all geographical approaches and perspectives, representing both basic and applied research. Theme issues are published after a Call for Papers. However, manuscripts outside the year’s given theme are welcomed and may be published under the Research Articles section. We accept submissions throughout the year. NGP Theme Issues publishes original research articles (ca 6000-9000 words), academic essays and review articles (ca 3000–6000 words), and extended abstracts primarily targeted for graduate students (ca 1000–1500 words), all of which are reviewed by two anonymous referees before publishing. In addition there is the possibility to publish editorially considered and reviewed discussions and interventions (ca 2000-4000 words) that delve into current issues in geographical research . Nordia Geographical Publications is indexed in Scopus and is a level 1 publication in the Publication Forum classification system. NGP Theme Issues are published in English.

Nordia Geographical Publications is also a platform for Geographical doctoral and licentiate theses. The language of these publications is English or Finnish.

The journal was published as Nordia Publications from 1967 to 1990. In 1995, it was relaunched as Nordia Geographical Publications.
